This creates an urgent R&D opportunity for functional ingredients that go beyond basic nutrition and focus more on precision nutrition under challenging conditions. Krill meal provides a unique package of nutrients—phospholipids, omega-3 fatty acids, astaxanthin, and choline—that support immunity, resilience, and growth. Its strong palatability also enables the inclusion of sustainable alternative feed ingredients with low acceptance. By investing in targeted R&D, the industry can unlock krill meal’s potential to enhance fish performance, welfare, and sustainability, offering practical solutions for future-ready aquaculture.
