This project is aimed at achieving highly automated on-bottom drilling, Multiple technologies were digitally integrated and orchestrated. The project was guided by clearly defined goals and success criteria, focusing on the alignment of surface and downhole parameters to optimize control. To meet the objectives, it was essential to automatically transmit orchestrated drilling parameters—such as Weight on Bit (WOB), RPM, flow rate, and/or Rate of Penetration (ROP)—to the rig control system for execution. During orchestration, the system accounted for the interdependencies between ROP optimization, hole cleaning, wellbore stability, geo-pressure constraints, mechanical limits of the bit and BHA, buckling thresholds, vibration mitigation, and directional steering requirements. The solution was validated through a phased approach: simulator testing, shadow mode deployment, advisory mode operation, and finally, full automation.
