The main way to replace damaged tissues in medical practice is through transplantation from human donors. While this method works relatively well to restore basic function, there are problems like not having enough donors to meet demand, the complicated procedures involved, and the risk of disease and host-immune reaction. Because of this, processed animal tissues or synthetic materials are used in alternative products. These methods also have downsides, also in how the body reacts to them as they are not as biocompatible or regenerative as native human tissue. Therefore, there is an unmet need for new ideas in regenerative medicine to help more patients get implants they need and have better, long-lasting outcomes. Tissue engineering is a growing field that combines engineering and life sciences to create replacement tissues for clinical use. This field aims to make substitutes that can repair, maintain, or enhance how tissues and organs function. These engineered tissues can also be used to release helpful molecules and test treatments in lab models thereby reducing the need for animal testing. ClexBio’s innovative platform technology VivoSet is able to address the current needs in the tissue engineering field. VivoSet offers the ability to achieve more complex geometries and conditions, larger tissue thicknesses, and purely human final products. This project utilizes the unique properties of the VivoSet platform to produce new tissue-engineered products for clinical translation, in vitro models for drug development, and research-grade reagents.
