Offentlig prosjektsammendrag
The COVID-19 Pandemic created an unprecedented demand for rapid and high-volume vaccine manufacturing. Messenger RNA (mRNA) has risen to prominence as a versatile vaccine platform to address this demand and can now treat other non-infectious diseases as well. Other RNA types such as microRNA (miRNA), small interfering RNA (siRNA), and CRISPR-related guide RNA (gRNA) have a promising future as broadly applicable therapeutics. Global implementation of RNA therapeutic technology suffers from considerable challenges regarding efficient manufacturing with required purity and scale to provide sufficient high quality compliant RNA products to meet the global demand. Enzymes are key components in biomanufacturing processes and the emerging market for therapeutic RNA creates a need for novel and improved enzymes, and a significant market opportunity for enzyme manufacturers, which ArcticZymes wishes to exploit to strengthen the position as a global enzyme supplier. The project’s main objective is to develop novel enzyme solutions enabling innovative workflows and cost-effective manufacturing and analytics for RNA therapeutics to improve human health.
