SERO AS, throughout 60 years of its activity in the in vitro diagnostic market, has developed and produced quality control materials that are used to control diagnostic instruments in clinical laboratories in more than 60 countries worldwide. Control materials are of great importance for the operation of, for example, hospital laboratories. Through this project SERO will develop a new control material. Control materials consist of a base material (often blood, serum or urine) that contains relevant biomarkers. These can be, for example, proteins, drugs, hormones, salts or lipids. The concentration level of the biomarkers must be stable and adjusted according to the clinical decision-making levels. Lack of stability of the biomarkers in a given control material is often a challenge and special expertise is required to develop a new product that is stably homogeneous, behaves like patient samples, and covers the relevant analysis spectrum on an instrument.
