Dietary protein and essential amino acids play pivotal roles in the nourishment of fish, as they are indispensable for growth and overall development. However, protein is the expensive component in the diets and excess dietary protein leads to high nitrogen discharge to waters which might in turn affect feed intake and fish growth and overall aquaculture system. Notably, in the past few decades, plant proteins have gained widespread usage in aqua feed as substitutes for fishmeal. While this substitution is motivated by various reasons, it tends to introduce an imbalanced amino acid profile within the dietary protein composition. In this project, we will develop a model to be able to predict nutrient retention, improve performance based on variable levels of digestible protein and essential amino acids ratio in the diet profile.
