Aker BioMarine Antarctic AS is a Norwegian biotechnology company established in 2006 and the global leader in harvesting of Antarctic krill (Euphausia Superba) and production of krill-derived products. The company operates three factory trawlers and one transport vessel in the Antarctic Ocean. The vessels produce krill meal that is used for animal feed or refined on shore into a phospholipid-rich oil for human omega-3 supplementation in our factory in Houston, Texas, USA. Krill meal also contains about 60% protein, which is utilized as high-grade feed for aquaculture and pets. Aker BioMarine utilizes environmentally friendly krill harvesting technology (Eco-Harvesting®) to maintain the nutritional integrity of the krill and minimize any environmental impact. The global market for human grade protein isolates is significant and represents an attractive market opportunity for the whole marine industry. Aker BioMarine has recently invested in a larger pilot production facility in Ski, which includes R&D laboratories for further product development and optimization. The project is crucial to document the beneficial effects of our products for human and planetary health.
