A novel radon and air quality solution for improving indoor air quality

We have become an indoor generation, spending more than 90% of our time indoors! Meaning at the age of 40, you have spent 36 of those years indoors. There are a lot of invisible dangers in the 21.000 breaths we take every day, and they have a huge impact on our daily well-being and long-term health. Poor air quality is one of the big health risks we are facing today, and it takes millions of lives every year. Airthings ASA is an R&D focused scaleup dedicated to the ambition of empowering the world to breathe better. For Airthings this means making all the invisible dangers visible, helping people understand what they are being exposed to and enabling them to do something about it. Doing this requires new, innovative solutions. Through research & development of world class sensors and hardware solutions, Airthings enable people to measure these invisible dangers with high accuracy. On top of the data, we build digital solutions to help customers interpret them, through graphs and reports and we also make products like virtual sensors (like mold risk). Last but not least it is important to help customers improve their air quality, by changing their behavior (like opening a window when needed), connecting them to professionals, using smart products to improve the air or connecting smart data to systems that can be controlled using Airthings data. The main R&D challenges of this project are combining monitoring data with mitigation strategies and hardware, development and optimization of an intuitive solution for user experience, choice of connectivity technology, optimization of cloud architecture for collecting very large amounts of data (millions) per day, at low cost and tolerant to data-losses. At the end of the day, our ultimate goal is to use data to help people change their behavior and take action to improve their air quality.
