ArchiWind: The future of wind simulations for smart cities (SkatteFUNN)

The current state-of-the-art (SoA) in wind assessments is based on CFD simulations undertaken by highly skilled personnel. However, the technical accuracy, resolution, and confidence are in line with the consultant's ability. Also, the method is computationally expensive and the time required to obtain results can often be measured in days/weeks, slowing down progress. The ArchiWind project will develop and optimize a holistic CFD tool for wind comfort and production calculations in large urban areas. Besides direct application in real-estate and infrastructure projects, we endeavor to provide insights into a range of use-cases apt for a smart city environment. Our patented process will deliver a full-service delivery to streamline the simulation workflow, automating the whole chain from model placement to report delivery. Unique Selling Points (USPs) for ArchiWind are: * Ease of use: No need for major technical intervention from the end-user. Automation is enabled by strictly tailoring the process (by internal parameter setting) to the specific application, as well as to the regional standards and quality of terrain models, 3D building models and wind statistics. * Interactivity: The end-user can actively modify the design and evaluate effects without waiting for a consultant, facilitating a fully automatic digital process with less latency. * Complete delivery: Integration of minor application-specific parameters and reporting functions (e.g., for regulatory compliance) to provide additional value to the customer. * Flexible integration: Providing output datasets for other applications (e.g., HVAC input parameters, etc.) * Low price point per simulation: Significantly cheaper than existing solutions, opening new markets.
