With the long-term goal of developing and producing safe, capable, and affordable robots, Halodi Robotics (Halodi) was founded in April 2014 in Moss, Norway. 24 employees work for the company, including two based in California, USA, one in Liege, Belgium and one in Shanghai, China Halodi’s core technologies are (1) REVO motors, which hold the world record in torque-to-weight and power-to-weight, (2) transmissions, a key enabler of humanoid assistive robots, and (3) a humanoid robot called EVE as a direct force-controlled robot with 23 degrees of freedom, which is a machine learning ready self-balancing mobile manipulator with human size and strength. In development now is a second humanoid robot called SARAH for the Home and Healthcare market to be launched in 2021. SARAH (Safe Affordable Reliable Avatar for Homecare) is a project to deliver the first remote guided humanoid assistant robot that can carry out a wide range of assistive tasks for care recipients. Tasks is carried out supervised by the person in the response center and by a VR headset the health professional can monitor or carry out tasks at the care recepient as feeding, cleaning, helping in daily hygiene, and more complex tasks such as dressing/undressing persons. The robot enables a high-quality and cost-effective home service that significantly improves lives and make public or private home service providers more effective. We envision a gradual transition in the robot’s independence from human intervention until we achieve the first autonomous robot designed for home care.
