Additives for Coil Coatings

The paint and coatings industry has traditionally been represented by two types of coating systems: solvent- and water-based systems. The latter belongs to a relatively young area of coatings, which emerged to overcome environmental and health concerns often associated with solvent-based coatings. Although water-based coatings have lots of advantages over solvent-based systems, such as reduced VOC and lower carbon footprint, it is still facing challenges to reach the high-quality standards of solvent-based coatings. At the same time, there are some areas of the coatings industry, where water-based coatings have not found a widespread application e.g., coil coatings and automotive topcoats. Coil coatings customers represent an important part of Dynoadd business and at this moment the industry is facing a global raw materials shortage with a continuously increased cost of production and supply. The Dynoadd additives group recognizes the need to be more flexible with respect to global supply and secure access to raw materials, which are crucial for our businesses. In this project, we aim to develop a production of key raw materials, that are otherwise purchased, at Dynea. This transition will decrease our dependency on the global market and secure us from increased costs. In addition, we aim to diversify our portfolio of coil additives with novel products with enhanced properties in flow, wetting, and rheology.
