A massive amount of data and knowledge is collected by organizations to back their work, publications and recommendations. Despite the high costs of research, most organizations have adopted a more knowledge-based approach. At Åpenhet, we believe in this data’s power to inform citizens and drive public policy and advocacy. However, much of this data today is inaccessible, hard to understand, unable to trigger action or not efficiently collected. Consequently, the amount of research done and of data collected does not reflect the amount being used, so that high costs are met with limited impact. At Åpenhet, we are trying to reverse this curve and to help data and knowledge shape decisions, thoughts and debates. We serve the public sector, international and civil society organizations we believe in. We mostly add value and sustainability to organizations that produce structured data on a regular basis, as our solutions require no additional costs for new data inputs. Since several years, we develop, for our diverse international clients, custom-made interactive data visualization and exploration solutions, such as data portals. To increase our impact, streamline our production processes, decrease the cost of our services and enlarge the number of organizations we can serve, we now intend to develop a generic, on-the-shelf product capable of visualizing any structured dataset added by an organization through a Plug-n-play, API-based system. This tool will allow a large number of data-collecting organizations to benefit, at an accessible price, from interactive data exploration and visualization possibilities either for their internal purpose or external communication and advocacy efforts. It will stand out by its simplicity to use, its adaptation to diverse dataset structures and its focus on a seamless user experience. Hence we developed this plan to design and build Visflo - a Plug-n-play data visualization portal for data-collecting organizations.
