Offentlig prosjektsammendrag
About 1 kg of graphite is needed per kWh of storage capacity and upto 70 kgs of graphite are used in current EV vehicles. The demand for LIB is rapidly growing in the last decades and the sustainable supply of the battery raw materials becomes more strategically important. In Europe, the LIB capacity is estimated to be 600 GWh by 2030 and in global it is estimated to be 5,454GWh (Benchmark Mineral Intelligence). For every GWh hour of battery (LIB), approximately 1000 tonnes of graphite are needed. The production of graphite is very energy-intensive and is largely made from fossil carbon sources. There is therefore a need and desire to reduce production energy-intensive and reduce the need for fossil raw material. Vianode is in the process of establishing the world's most environmentally friendly factory for the production of synthetic graphite for use as anode material in LIB, and we work with several research projects to further reduce the environmental and climate footprint from production. In this project, Vianode will attempt to replace the fossil-based carbon source for graphite production with renewable bio-mass based carbon source to ensure the long-term sustainable battery grade graphite.
