Starting from the early 90s, Fugro Norway has deployed a unique network of ground stations strategically distributed around the Earth. This network, made of high-end Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers, acquires signals from the 5 currently available GNSS constellations (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou and QZSS), process them and send the data to three casters for processing. The processing happens in Oslo, Eik and Stockholm. It's here where 'the brain' of the project runs and produces corrections that can be used by a compatible GNSS receiver to achieve sub cm position accuracy. Given the increasing demand for precise positioning, Fugro is continuously looking into new applications that will break through new markets, therefore developing innovative dedicated solutions while making sure the heritage business remains up to date. For this reason, this project drifts from the company's traditional core operations - historically focused on the marine business - by putting all the R&D effort towards the development of new methods, features and technologies to support upcoming businesses such as mass-market applications, autonomous driven vehicles, precise time distribution via space, Precise Point Positioning for LEO satellites.
