Remote production with JPEG XS in MPEG Transport Stream

Appear develops products for broadcasters and contribution operators to send TV signals to end users or production facilities. Modern TV production studios are moving their facilities from the content creation site to the cloud or a remote stationary site. This entails a logistic challenge to bring the high bitrate camera feeds to the remote site without compromising quality or latency. Current solutions for this use case are either compromising latency by using a broadcast video codec to be able to reuse the infrastructure or compromising infrastructure complexity to achieve the best latency. This project will conclude Appear’s solution for remote production with state-of-the-art compression technology, JPEG XS, combined with MPEG transport stream protocol that enabled the use of traditional broadcasting infrastructure without sacrificing latency. Additionally, Appear is adding NMOS support to the studio interface, enabling automated routing of media between the X-Platform and other devices in the ST2110 network.
