Dietary antioxidant interactions and their implications for the quality of farmed Atlantic salmon

In this project we will examined how the dietary vitamins and trace minerals improves the oxidative status of the fish. By doing this we can improve and balance our grower feed and improve the fish quality of our Mowi raised salmon. We will measure the vitamin and antioxidant storage and follow up main response parameters as feed intake, growth and feed conversion ratio, simple flesh quality (fat and color), and general fish health including gut health assessments. If we can improve the antioxidant status of the fish we know that the retention of pigment in the fish and the visual color of the salmon is improved. Better balanced nutritional diets which improves the oxidative status of the fish may make the fish more robust in many welfare farming situations in addition to contribute to better economy. Filet color are one of the main quality criteria for the salmon marked. If we can obtain more efficient pigmentation of the fish by balancing the vitamins in the feed we can save resources in addition to adding more value to the fish.
