WindSpider is a technology company that develops a new scalable and modular self-erecting lifting solution (“the WindSpider” or “Solution”) for wind turbine generators (“WTG”). The key difference between WindSpider vs traditional cranes is obtained by using the wind turbine tower as support for the crane. This means that all work related to installation and MCR (Major Component Replacement) of future generation WTGs can be carried out from a wider variety of vessels, drastically reducing the cost and time of the operation. The use of WindSpider eliminates relative motion between crane and WTG and is therefore well suited for windy conditions when installing WTG components. The WindSpider is designed for installation & MCR of WTGs onshore and offshore, on bottom-fixed & floating substructures. By using vessels and cranes with substantially lower day rates and availability, WindSpider targets a +50% cost reduction for installation and MCR on next generation of WTGs compared to new wind turbine installation vessels and onshore cranes. WindSpider is a gamechanger for offshore MCR of floating WTGs vs tow-in to port / shore. As such, WindSpider will contribute to reduced levelized cost & increased production of renewable energy, which is welcomed by the developers in the fast-growing offshore wind industry. With an effective lifting capacity of 1200+ metric ton, the WindSpider is prepared for next generations of 15–20 MW wind turbines at a substantially lower cost. WindSpider is located in Stavanger and has a team of 9 motivated and skilled individuals.
