Lyso-phospholipids: product and process development

Marine phospholipid supplements are linked to positive health outcomes in humans and represent a significant and growing market opportunity for the Norwegian marine industry. For instance, omega-3 phospholipids have been identified to be the preferred molecular form of omega-3 fatty acids for uptake in the brain. However, difficulties in up-concentrating said phospholipids and general efficiency of production have so far prevented the industry from reaching its full potential in this market space. The aim of the present project is to develop and produce new and improved krill-based products for human consumption with tailored levels of specific phospholipid species rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
