The At-the-Bit® technology project aims to develop an on-demand and instant downhole solution to cure severe mud losses. The concept comprises the use of fast swelling polymers being pre-stored and activated by a downhole tool inserted as a part of the BHA. The tool can be regarded as a "Driller's Airbag". The benefit of early mud loss treatment is: - To avoid potential formation damages by drilling fluid particles. - To prevent potential blow-out incidents. - Preventing hole collapse as a consequence of lost circulation. - Reducing drilling non-productive time (NPT). - Reducing drilling fluid cost. - Improving environmental and safety (HSE) aspects. Prores has been studying the global challenge of infill drilling in depleted reservoirs leading to induced fractures during drilling and when drilling in naturally fractured and karstified carbonate reservoirs. These studies have led to idea of developing the At-the-Bit® technology. The ambition is to reach technology readiness level 4 (TRL4) during 2022, meaning ready for first use.
