Mobility has for centuries been linked to prosperity. But transportation is the second largest contributor to CO2 emissions. As more countries develop and strive to become prosperous they eventually lead to increasing private car ownership and CO2 emissions. Global warming treats all countries and people equally. Advanced as well as developing economies are struggling with increasing consumption and wastefulness of resources. This project aims to develop a transport solution which will help travel with share rides in private cars or taxis and split costs. The advanced design and algorithm developed will match people to share rides that helps them save time and money with the least amount of effort. In addition, by adding one-way car-rental/car-sharing for places like airport we hope to reduce the need for purchase of cars for a family. In addition, one-way car-rental/car-sharing for places like airport will help reduce inefficiency arising from 'empty' trips taken by family or taxi drivers. Our dream is to add public transport to make PenguinUp a complete mobility solution. Global warming and digital technologies are both advancing at significant speed. Why not leverage one (digital technology) to solve the other?
