Lightweight compression with MPEG Transport Stream (XSTS)

Appear develops products for broadcasters and contribution operators to send TV signals to end users or production facilities. Modern TV production studios are moving their facilities from the content creation site to a remote stationary site. This entails a logistic challenge to bring the high bitrate camera feeds to the remote site without compromising quality or latency. Current solutions for this use case are either compromising latency by using a video codec used in broadcasting to be able to reuse the infrastructure, or compromising infrastructure complexity to achieve the best latency. This project will for the first time bring a solution where the state-of-the-art compression technology for quality and latency, JPEG XS, can be used in traditional broadcasting infrastructure with the MPEG transport stream container.
