Global health and pension products for freelancers, remote workers and digital nomads

SafetyWing is building a global social safety net on the internet. The growth in remote workers has been strong in recent years and is showing all signs of having continued strong growth. Some experts predict that there will be up to one billion people who live as "digital nomads" within the next fifteen years. It goes without saying that the global Coronavirus pandemic of 2020-2021 has accelerated this trend. At the same time, today's welfare systems are offered by nation-states according to where a worker has citizenship or residence. We, therefore, see that many individuals fall outside of this traditional country-based framework. Inspired, in part, by the success of the Norwegian safety net, we wish to build an at-will framework where we offer a membership or subscription model that provides access to products such as health insurance, remote health services, pension, income security, and other types of insurance and financial security. SafetyWing was founded in 2017 with funding by the startup accelerator, Y-Combinator.
