Roadguard is producing a tire tread depth measurement system to be installed directly on the road surface. The data management and analysis are intended for potential integration with public vehicle registers, for automatic distribution of fines, notifications etc, in addition to an end user notification service. The product will increase road safety through better tire surveillance, leading to increased tire changing patterns. A successful product is of economic and humanitarian interest to the public, to a range of commercial companies and industry organizations, and will be scalable to international markets. Retail are often reluctant to buy new tires until they are forced to or made aware of the need to, and Norwegian border control confirm that foreign trucks often arrives in Norway with tires unfit for the Nordic climate. With a low level of control both at the border and domestically, the government currently have few efficient tools for increasing tire quality. The project fits well with local and national agenda, and governmental zero-vision for road injuries. The project's value creation will be national with international growth opportunities.
