AquaHeal: treatment of chronic wounds using all-marine bioactive ingredients

Regenics has developed bioactive components originating from fish eggs (roe). A crude extract is sold as an ingredient and integrated in finished products for cosmetic purposes. All R&D is invested in developing products for wound care. Chronic and hard-to-heal wounds are a major health problem worldwide. Present treatment is mainly based on cleaning and removal of dead tissue (debridement) as needed for the wound to heal, treat any infection and cover and protect the wound from external factors. The innovation in the area has been low and the medical and societal need for new cost-effective treatment alternatives is high. In this Skattefunn period, Regenics aim to develop one drug for wound debridement and one medical device for acceleration of wound closure. The bio-actives in both are originating from salmonoid roe. The preferred formulations will enter clinical trials as required by regulatory agencies: * A product for debridement of wounds based on bioactives originating from roe from trout. This drug will remove dead or necrotic tissue within wounds to accelerate the healing process. * An all-marine 3D printed wound healing patch with a bioactive from salmon roe (HTX) for closure of chronic wounds. Regenics is partially funded by national public funding, including Skattefunn, and funding through EU programs. The main funding comes from existing and new investors as well as revenues from sales of cosmetic products.
