Bio-based adhesives for wood products

The BioLim project ???Tightening formaldehyde emission limits and increasing public demand for more sustainable materials have boosted research into alternatives to traditional urea-formaldehyde adhesives for wood products. Not only is this topic a primary focus for academic institutions today, but the technologies are becoming industrially feasible. However, to date, our company has performed only limited investigations into the topic. The BioLim project aims to address this gap in the Dynea product portfolio by investigating the potential of using lignin or other bio-macromolecules as primary components in our adhesives. Since such bio-derived raw materials come from either renewable forest resources or agriculture, they are net carbon neutral with respect to their emissions, excluding transport and processing. Thus, by introducing such chemicals into our products, Dynea will help Norway meet its sustainable development goals by decreasing the impact our products have on atmospheric carbon.
