The increasing awareness of consumers about the environmental impacts of the products they use, as well as their origin and production, is driving major investments towards biobased materials. This shift aims to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels that would result in positive environmental impacts such as reduced carbon dioxide emissions. Although in the coatings industry, at the moment, biobased paints and coatings play a rather small role in the business, there is an increasing demand of biobased products and considerable growth is expected in the near future. In Dynoadd, we are aware of the importance of contributing towards sustainable development and aim to include in our portfolio additives produced from biobased raw materials that are sustainably sourced. In this project, we aim to design and synthesize macromolecules from renewable and natural based raw materials to produce biobased additives for paints and coatings. We are specifically targeting the development additives for coil coating technology, an industrialized process in which large metal coils go through a series of fully automated production steps prior to final fabrication stages. The new additive leads that will be developed in this project will be identified, characterized, and tested as additives in paint formulations.
