Positioning technology based on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) is evolving rapidly. GPS is undergoing modernisation with a new L5 civil signal which is broadcast by the last generation GPS-III satellites. In addition, Europe's Galileo constellation is fully operational and the Chinese BeiDou (BDS) satellite system is delivering global coverage with a full constellation of a new generation of BDS-3 satellites. In this context, Fugro is the world leader in the delivery of precise real-time positioning for offshore markets, using Precise Point Positioning (PPP) technology. Due to the evolution of GNSS, additional research is needed in order to keep a competitive advantage and deliver state-of-the-art GNSS-based technology to Fugro's customer base. This includes R&D activities for being able to include all new satellites/signals into its positioning services, with the objective of improving end-user positioning, accuracy, availability, robustness and convergence time. In addition, Fugro's strategy is to leverage its existing infrastructure into new growth markets. In this context, Fugro is aiming at delivering precise navigation services space markets, and to deliver not only positioning but also precise timing services in real-time. This project includes required technology adaptations to cover the requirements of the new users and applications.
