Continuation of project: Eco-stabilizer of human gut microbiota

Today’s unnatural modern lifestyle, with processed foods and sterile environments, disconnects us from the environment which has formed us throughout our evolutionary history, especially our contact with soil. Without such natural challenges, our gut microbiota lose the ability to interact with our body in a beneficial way. Imbalances of the microbial ecosystem inside the gut – gut dysbiosis – is a root cause of multiple health problems. EderaGen AS has developed a novel product for preventing dysbiosis, to be marketed under the registered trade name EderaGard®. It is also referred to as Deconstructed Soil because it is composed of purified substances found in soil. It supports and maintains high bacterial species diversity in the large intestine, in particular of strictly anaerobic bacteria. Being designed in complete conformity with ecological mechanisms, it acts as an eco-stabilizer which does not add any live microbes or nutritional energy. As such, it represents a completely new class of products that is different from anything else on the market. A patent is pending. The project under this application comprises state-of the-art research exploring further important scientific issues important for understanding the mechanisms in the complex ecosystem of the human gut. It is designed to expand the Company's knowledge and understanding on the mode of action of eco-stabilizers and their components, and on numerous related issues. The Company uses microbiome characterization by means of 16s rRNA gene amplicon DNA sequencing on the Illumina platforms, followed by bioinformatics analysis by means of powerful supercomputers. Shotgun metagenomics sequencing is also performed. The main objective is do develop new knowledge and documentation of these complex mechanisms relevant to deconstructed soil. EderaGen cooperates with the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis (CEES) at the University of Oslo on this Project.
