Offentlig prosjektsammendrag
IDEX develops and commercializes fingerprint sensors, and the major potential market is smart cards. The fingerprint sensor will replace the PIN. A successful sensor for smart cards must endure the physical stress that the card may be subject to, it must operate fast and within a tiny power budget, and yield reliable biometric results without compromising security. All within a cost that card issuers are willing to pay. A fingerprint sensor consists of a sensing area, one or more ASICs (electronic chips) to operate it, process data and handle communication and power. The ASIC is the heart and brain of an ASIC. The Greylock ASIC is intended to have superior performance, and perform several the functions that other card designs needs other components for. The price point is expected to be sufficiently low to be attractive for mass market cards.
