Concrete is the most extensively used construction material worldwide and the concrete production process accounts for 8% of the world’s CO2 emissions. Ageing structures, combined with years of neglect and a lack of accurate insight into asset health create a serious safety, environmental and financial risk. Elop’s vision is to provide asset owners with smart products and solutions that will help them to improve user safety, extend asset lifetime, minimize total lifecycle cost, and contribute to an overall reduction in the environmental footprint of concrete structures globally. Elop is currently completing the development of a groundbreaking new tool for accurate inspection, asset management and structural health monitoring of concrete structures. Development of this tool requires a high level of expertise in electronics and hardware, signal and image processing, software and artificial intelligence, material technology and product design. This research and development project will solve the considerable technical challenges associated with designing and repackaging the Elops core technology into a small and light unit with sophisticated visualization that will be ready for mass production. Core activities include optimizing material technology, improving the signal processing, creating a compact product-design, and developing a new intelligent data management system. The result will be a solution with built in intelligence and analytics to support asset owners in their condition monitoring and maintenance process related to critical infrastructure.
