Live feeds are important food supply for many species of interest in aquaculture during their early life stages. Rotifers and brine shrimp (Artemia sp.) are the most commonly used live feed organisms in aquaculture due to their relatively cost-efficient protocols for stable mass production. However, the content of n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA), particularly docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n3) and eicosapentanoic acid (EPA, 20:5n3), in both rotifers and Artemia are insufficient for many marine larval fish species. BioMar enrichment product is one of the most successful product in the market for boosting n-3 HUFA, especially DHA levels in live feed. Besides of the essential fatty acids, it also boost live feed with high levels of vitamins, key minerals, immunostimulants and phospholipids. This project will investigate the effect of HUFA and the combination effect with antioxidant with sea bream larvae, via the enrichment of rotifers and Artemia.
