Growth in Aquaculture is constrained by challenges such as fish escape, sea lice and fish welfare. Today’s regulatory regime is complex with many different stakeholders. There are several challenges in coordination between different authorities and a lack of a common understanding of risk. DNV GL is working on a framework for Barrier Management that will help fish farmers focus on key barriers that need to be in place for controlling their risks. - Barrier Management can enable more efficient control during operations, providing efficiency gains for the operators. - Certification regimes can also be put in the context of Barrier Management and generate added value through providing information on the strengths and weaknesses in the barriers performance. - Barrier Management will enable the fish farmer to demonstrate control across different regulatory regimes and will enable both the farmers and public auditors to focus their resources on the barriers that have the largest impact on securing success.
