Offentlig prosjektsammendrag
The cost of renewable energy from wind and solar is falling rapidly, with the cost of solar power being forecasted at between 0.08 and 0.01 USD/kWh by 2030. This will allow for production of renewable hydrogen at a cost lower than the current fossil-based cost of 1.5-3 USD/kg with carbon capturing, provided that there is a 20-40% drop in CAPEX and a significant increase in operational efficiency for the hydrogen electrolysers. The HCD project aims to combine the core electrolyser technology from Nel with materials and production methods recently developed in for example the Automotive industry to reduce the material cost of the electrolyser and at the same time increase the output and efficiency of each electrolysis cell by optimising the cell geometry.
