Research in 2020 on adressing challenges in the oil and gas industry

The Oil and Gas programme develop the foundations and prototypes for risk-based and model-centric services on system Level. In 2020 research focus has been on the following main project called SAMBA: SAMBA focuses on developing “fast-assurance” by using digital twins (models, AI/ML and data) in assurance of the physical asset. Our focus is on using the twins in the assurance of the physical asset. We aim for “fast-assurance” such that it may be used real-time during operations. Still, we must be able to capture uncertainty as we are normally assuring towards risk acceptance criteria. This then calls for smart use of machine learning to develop response surfaces representing the various twins including uncertainty, adaptive simulation techniques to ensure simulation efficiency reflecting the uncertainty, and Bayesian approaches for inference from data (inspection, sensors, simulations, etc) to update uncertainty. The project will deliver the overall framework of micro-services to enable model-based assurance.
