Large yellow croaker (Larimichthys croceus) is one of the commercially important mariculture species in China. Current feed product in China is high protein and low energy product, containing high level of marine-origin resources. Feed cost is the most significant, reaching about 70 percent of total costs in the case of this carnivorous species. The high feed cost has been hindered the further development of LYC aquaculture industry in recent years. In Europe, aquafeeds has changed significantly with a broader use of various plant ingredients and less inclusion of marine-origin resources. In addition, aquafeed has become more and more energy dense to spare protein. It is crucial to develop a performance model and evaluate biological responses of economic value to give us more flexibility due to raw material usage and to be able to produce more sustainable diets for Large yellow croaker.
