B'ZEOS - Let's replace single use plastic in the food industry with marine-safe materials

Plastic waste coming from food packaging that is non-biodegradable will remain intact over thousands of years in nature. It’s known to all that this results in severe pollution in the environment. Cellophane is a biodegradable material used for food packaging, whereas its manufacture requires toxic carbon disulfide. To provide an alternative conventional plastic, Oslo based cleantech company B’ZEOS is devel- oping a fully home compostable food packaging from seaweed extracts. Seaweed is a renewable and abundant resource. Unlike land-based plants, seaweed does not require fresh water, fertilizer, and pesticides to grow. Seaweed grows quickly in the sea where it captures CO2 and releases O2 which is important for marine animals. B’ZEOS’s packaging films are made through its green manufacturing process where only sustainable and safe raw materials are used. B’ZEOS is dedicated to only use raw materials extracted from locally sourced and sustainably grown seaweeds to minimize environmental impact. Currently, B’ZEOS is working on improving its products so that the performance would match that of his new application target - related to food packaging. Meanwhile, B’ZEOS is collaborating with one of the 3 world leader in food industry and a technology centre to scale up the production of its food packaging application. B’ZEOS believes that by using less-refined raw materials, improving the product formulation and streamlining the manufacturing process, the production costs will be reduced so that the price of its packaging films will be competitive with the current price of plastic film.
