Development of unique T4 DNA like ligases

Ligases are enzymes that are able to join DNA or RNA fragments. There are several types of ligases, each with different characteristics and specificities, and some of these are available on the market. T4 DNA Ligase is a well described and widely commercialized ligase and is used in a wide array of methods. However, T4 DNA like ligases with different characteristics than the T4 DNA ligase are desired. Development of new technology within molecular biology and diagnostics often rely heavily on the access to enzymes with very specific characteristics and AZ strive to be a provider of such enzymes. In line with this our goal is to develop a panel of new ligases with unique properties. In previous research projects we have identified several interesting ligase candidates which we believe have a potential in the market. Allthough being homologues of T4 DNA ligase these ligases have characteristics distinct from this enzyme and we believe that our T4 DNA like ligases could contribute to improvement of existing technology and development of new technology. By providing the market with unique T4 DNA like ligases which differ from T4 DNA ligase in traits like temperature optimum, salt optimum, substrate specificity, fidelity, stability and efficiency, we will gain valuable insight and foothold in an important and large market segment in the molecular enzymes industry.
