LC n-3 PUFA and their utilisation in Mowi salmon

In this project we will examined the effectiveness of omega-3 (n-3) long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA), eicosapentaenoic (EPA, 20:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic (DHA, 22:6n-3) acid in Mowi salmon. We will measured the deposition of EPA & DHA during the ongrowth-phase of the unique Atlantic salmon, Mowi strain, to build good nutritional models. Global supply of the LC PUFA is limited and we need to increase utilisation of the EPA & DHA resources in salmon feed. The feed content of marine oils have decreased during the last decade and the farming condition demands more physical handling of the salmon, and therefore we need new documentation and better nutrient models of the LC n-3 PUFA in our salmon.
