Some of the biggest challenges in the property and construction industry relate to the missing link between what has been planned during the design phase and what is actually being built on-site once a project starts. With laser scanning solutions being still too cumbersome for any frequent use, simple photos and random manual samples remain as today's most widely used methods of capturing the conditions at a project site. Despite the advancements in project-planning solutions, in Norway alone, a country with some of the highest building standards, up to NOK 12 Bn per year (ca. 6% of project costs) relate to avoidable on-site mistakes and delays from miscommunication. Imerso' technology simplifies onsite 3D scanning workflows and creates a platform that can process vast amounts of 3D scans. The ambitions of the project are twofold: 1) to achieve efficiency gains in the value-chains of real-estate development, renovation, and new-build projects by drastically reducing the costs and time of property surveying and digitising real-world spaces; and 2) to establish an efficient progress-tracking process using the ability to frequently document on-site conditions in 3D for removing subjectivity from work-quality inspections. Achieving these ambitions requires combining computer vision and machine learning techniques in close cooperation with end-users, to utilize their experience with typical challenges on building projects.
