Research in 2019 on adressing challenges in the oil and gas industry

The Oil and Gas programme develop the foundations and prototypes for risk-based and model-centric services on system level, enabling DNV GL BA Oil & Gas to provide new disruptive services in their market. In 2019 research focus has been on 3 main areas: 1. How to connect digital twins to dynamic risk models that capture uncertainty about the near-term future, enabling live risk assessments that reflects the actual condition and operation of the asset. This is what we call the probabilistic digital twin (PDT) 2. Adaptive Virtual System Testing, or how to combine data-driven models, models based on physics and logic, associated uncertainties, and risk measures, to ensure safe operation of our safety-critical systems. 3. How new Energy Value Chains Hydrogen provides a potential energy carrier with zero carbon emissions when combusted and could therefore play an important role in reducing carbon emissions if the hydrogen is produced in low-carbon value chains.
