With the rapid development within the fish farming industry and the reliance that feed producers have on fish meal- a limited protein source, there has been more and more of a move to reduce the usage of this resource, initially this began with substituting some of the FM with plant based protein sources. Although, as the industy continous to build its knowledge on these raw materials with regards to nutritional and fish health aspects it has been shown that some of these materials can led to unwanted outcomes when it comes to gut health, specifically in the distal regions of the intestine, even at low concentrations. Thus, its important to test other sustainable, traceable alternative protein sources. There are some new protein sources in the market that have shown promising results, such as; on par growth to that of fish grown of diets where Soya bean meal was used as a FM substitute, reduced inflamation in the intestine and good biological growth parameters. Bacterial meal is one such alternative that needs to be trialed
