For O&G operator companies today, the daily logistics operation relies heavily on manual handling and intervention to be able to deliver materials and personnel offshore. Complexity is added from siloed software, poor or inadequate data quality, no complete version of the truth, and lacking overall data governance. Fragmented system portfolios and closed digital ecosystems are blockers to effectively making the data available for the rest of the business, and reduces the potential to make data-driven decisions. Suppliers, transporters, supply bases, vessel- and helicopter operators also struggle with a lack of visibility of future demand. The result is a range of manual processes and excessive coordination. The purpose of the exChain project is to develop a trusted, industry-driven information sharing platform and open ecosystem that enables improved efficiency in the O&G value chain, and enables Aker BP, our partners, and suppliers to improve their daily supply chain and logistics operations through better planning from increased availability of information. The initial plan is to develop an Information Sharing Platform ("Block 1") targeting critical procurement, logistics, and plan data to create one version of the truth for all participants in the value chain. The exChain project will be managed as a separate R&D activity with clear deliverables, fully in support of Aker BP's Digital Logistics long term vision; "Autonomous logistics solution that safely delivers equipment and personnel where and when needed with enhanced systems and technical performance, shifting the human interaction focus to supply chain and logistics excellence."
