Intelligent river and vessel traffic monitoring system

River Information Systems have long been a neglected source of data in vessel traffic management on inland waterways. Handling of such information in combination with traditional vessel traffic systems (VTS) is a complex task and an underdeveloped service in the maritime sector. In addition, existing solutions are typically based on static models that are unable to adapt based on new information and knowledge. Therefore, Horizonte now aims to develop a new, intelligent vessel traffic management system which effectively prevents accidents and hazardous situations. The system will support collection and analysis of real-time data and metrics from sensors (e.g. CCTVs, weather conditions, water flows, water levels) and VTS systems. Based on machine learning techniques it will continuously adjust to new knowledge and change its underlying parameters for triggering alarms and administrating vessel traffic along the rivers, thus supporting rapid, accurate decision-making and secure vessel traffic management. By undertaking this project, we expect to become a leading provider of analytic tools for Coastal Administration agencies worldwide.
