Tomometric field electronics and software for multiphase metering

The starting point for the project is the already existing Roxar multiphase flow meter. This has been sold on a world-wide basis, and for a range of different applications. Most typically, the meter has been used in offshore applications, both topside and subsea, however in later years there is an increasing demand for land based shale oil applications. Shale oil applications are typically with low pressure and high gas fractions, causing rapidly changing and chaotic flow regimes to be tackled by the multiphase meter. New algorithms and measurement strategies for handling these conditions are in development, however, these new algorithms will require more measurements and at a faster pace than the electronics existing for our meter today. One part of this strategy is the use of tomemetry, meaning information relating the cross-sectional distribution of the flow, and in our case also in the axial direction. While this is supported by our present sensor hardware, having two electrode planes in the axial direction, one of which having 6 cross-sectional electrodes, the present electroncis only gives access to a limited number of electrode combinations. Additionally, by increasing the speed of the measurements, it will be possible to provide more detailed axial flow regime information.
