Ground model from integrated geo-data

The North Sea has some of the largest offshore renewables development area worldwide. Over the past ten years, wealth of multi-disciplinary data have been collected to improve the understanding of the geology and obtaining appropriate inputs for the design of wind turbines. The data reveal a complex geological history (glacial loading/unloading, permafrost, glacio-tectonics, sand banks, shallow marine and fluvial deposition, etc.). One of the key observations though is a significant scatter in geotechnical properties. This creates important for geotechnical design of wind turbine foundations. There is a need for a generic ground model resulting from the integration of geo-observations to reduce the uncertainties. The Skattefunn project will develop the methodology to integrate the available geo-data into a ground model that will form the basis for engineering and design assessments at the site, and develop a new approach to assess the risk associated with geohazards. The model will be tested for one site-specific study for wind farms. Different types of foundations solutions (e.g. monopiles, piled jackets for anchors) will be included in the predictive model. The new ground model will result in representative soil parameters for different soil provinces and soil units identified from the integration of all data.
