Intertek’s customers operate within the Oil and Gas industry, and face significant challenges when conducting maintenance on their offshore assets and in particular during the 5 and 10 year re-certification procedures. These activities include a complete dismantling of the equipment, which is then returned to onshore cleaning and testing facilities to ensure they remain fit for purpose which results in a significant cost to the company. In addition to this failures of critical bolts pose significant problems for many companies in the offshore oil and gas industry which has the potential for unplanned shutdowns, which results in expensive equipment being raised from the subsea environment to the surface for repairs. During these periods, customers can lose upwards of $600k a day with some repairs spanning many weeks. As a result, Intertek is aiming to design and develop a scientific and technological process and solution to significantly improve inspections for assessing current equipment condition and mechanical integrity of critical assets to improve the quality of analysis whilst reducing the cost.
