A new efficient power saving system for mailrooms in printing plants

Mailrooms in printing plants have been running for more than 20 years all over the world. Most mailrooms use the machines and systems from Ferag, Schur, Müller Martini, and Sitma. A typical printing plant contains three different parts. The first is the printing part where copies are produced in a single copy from printing machines, the second is the packaging part where single copies have been merged into different bundles, the last is the loading and delivery part where bundles will be loaded to different trucks for further delivery to the end customers. Mailroom contains the last two departments: packaging and loading. Power used in the mailroom has been spent on machines and conveyours. As the observation of our previous projects in mailroom, we noticed that around 20% to 30% of power has been wasted in mailroom without a proper power saving system. The reason behind is there is no sleeping mode for the machines and conveyors in mailrooms. Furthermore, in each printing plant, there is a fixed routine for operators to start all machines and conveyors in the mailroom before products come to the mailroom from the production line. Sometimes, machines and conveyors are running hours without any product, which cost a lot of waste of power, and reduce the lifetime of machines and conveyors. This is the main motivation of this project that we are going to develop a new efficient power saving system for the mailroom in printing plants so that the power can be greatly saved for machines and conveyors, and meanwhile, the lifetime of machines and conveyors can be increased.
