Mining the Future

"Mining the Future" will establish the geoinformation needs of the mining industry, the state-of-the-art of the corresponding Earth Observation (EO) services, and bridge the current competence gaps between needs and requirements from the mining industry and the space industry Earth Observations capabilities. There is an important need in both the space and mineral extractive industries for standardized EO data protocol and use of the avaiable data. Countries with strong mining economy have expressed an interest in such data and software. The proposed research will develop a new approach to make the space industry's Earth Observations available to the mining industry. The ultimate goal is to provide new tools to the mining industry to improve, for example, the managment of mning waste areas.
