Taking into account BioMar's expansion strategy and construction of a feed factory in Australia, it is essential to develop the most sustainable, cost-effective and high performance feeds for the aquatic species produced in the field. Barramundi (Lates calcarifer), is one of the most popular predatory fish cultured in Australia. The majority of aquaculture production comes from outdoor fresh or salt water pond operations and sea cages, with a steadily growing production in recirculation systems. Sustainability of aqua-feed production largely depends on raw material availability and selection. In recent years the raw material profile of aqua-feed has changed significantly in many species. It is therefore crucial to develop high performance feeds and evaluate biological responses of economic value using more sustainable raw materials for barramundi.
