Offentlig prosjektsammendrag
Salmon lice (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) is the most resource consuming single problem for the aquaculture industry today. Besides the injuries lice inflict salmon, handling in connection with counting and treatment against lice has become a serious health risk to the salmon. Genomic information is used to develop more efficient means of selection, especially via the use of large SNP panels and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to map quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and identify genetic variation enabling marker-assisted selection (MAS) on loci with large effect, or alternatively genomic selection (GS), acting on the entire genome. Making connections between genotype and phenotype is impossible without detailed phenotypic and records and high-resolution genomic information.
